Say the quiet part first

If you already have a receptionist who is good with walk-ins, the register, and the floor — keep them. AIVA does not smile at the door or close a ticket on SimplePOS. She answers in English, books gel, dip, fill, and acrylic on the live calendar, filters spam, and texts the appointment. Glossary: what is an AI receptionist.

The job split (write this on a sticky note)

  • Person (or owner-tech): greet walk-ins, take payment, mix the floor, handle the customer in the chair.
  • AIVA: the ringing line — 24/7, mid-service, after hours — plus SMS of the booking.
  • Tablet: walk-in check-in and wait time when nobody is free to talk.
  • POS you already have: SimplePOS, Limited POS, Salon Solutions, Mac USA, or Go POS. Not replaced.

We do not invent hourly wages, “average receptionist cost,” or a locked software price on this page. See pricing for current Bukkii plans. Hear the voice: (215) 791-6766.

Worksheet: four chairs to twelve

Many independent nail shops in that range never hire a dedicated desk. The owner is on a fill. A junior tech “watches the phone.” Voicemail is the night shift. That is not a staffing failure — it is a 6-chair P&L. Options:

  1. Stay as you are. Accept missed after-hours calls and mid-fill rings. Read after-hours nail salon calls and why voicemail fails before you assume callers will wait.
  2. Hire a front desk. Right when volume pays for the hours, including nights if you want those booked. A person still will not pick up while you are closed unless you pay overnight coverage.
  3. Add AIVA, keep the floor human. Forward the number you already advertise. Try 7 days from contact (phone required). No full-time hire just to answer.
  4. Both. Desk person for walk-ins and payment. AIVA for overflow, spam, and after hours. That is the usual stack once a shop actually has a receptionist.

Questions to tick before you hire — or don’t

  • Who greets walk-ins today? (If the answer is “whoever’s hands are driest,” a hire is a floor decision, not only a phone decision.)
  • Who takes payment? Keep that on your POS. AIVA is not the cash register.
  • Who answers Saturday 8pm and Monday 7am? If nobody, that is the AI job — not a reason to fire a day receptionist.
  • Do you need Vietnamese in the owner app and English on the phone? That is how AIVA is set up. We do not claim ES/FR/DE voice here.

Hands-busy detail: phone during a fill or acrylic. Without hiring: stop missing salon calls. Product: AIVA for nail salons.

Try 7 days via contact (phone required) or see pricing. No invented wages. No “replace your girl at the desk.”

FAQ

Should I replace my front-desk receptionist with an AI?

No. A person still greets walk-ins and takes payment. AIVA covers the 24/7 phone — nights, the line that rings mid-fill, and spam. This is not a “fire your receptionist” page.

We are a 6-chair shop with no dedicated desk. Do we need to hire?

Many 4–12 chair nail shops never staff a full-time front desk. The owner or a tech is the desk. An AI receptionist covers the phone so you do not have to hire just to pick up. Walk-ins and checkout still need a human or a tablet plus the POS you already run.

How much does a receptionist cost vs AIVA?

We will not invent wages or software prices here. Payroll depends on your city and hours. Current Bukkii plans are on the pricing page. Try 7 days and hear AIVA before you forward the line.
